These 3″ hearts require a 3″ x 5″ piece of felt and a 3″ heart pattern. I used a cookie cutter which worked perfectly. You can also find plenty of heart templates online to print and use as a pattern for any size you like.
Cut your felt into two pieces that measure 3″ x 3″ and 2″ x 3″. Trace your 3″ heart pattern onto the 3″ square and cut out. Generally felt has no right side unless embellishments are added to one side, such as glitter.
- Place the 2″ x 3″ rectangle on top of the felt heart. See how the open edge on heart #4 lines up from the heart center to mid-way along the heart’s side. Pin to hold in place if necessary, and turn over to the back side.
- Begin sewing on the back side, starting at the top of the heart. Following the cut heart, sew around the curve to the bottom point. Turn your heart and continue sewing along the side edge to the end of the rectangular piece of felt.
You may use any decorative stitch you want, such as the blanket stitch used on these heart pockets. A zig-zag would also work well. - From the back side, trim around the heart removing the excess felt around the rectangle edges. Trim your threads and turn the right side up.
- Customize your hearts with decoration of your choice. Trim each heart pocket with a fun Puff Paint design that finishes easily.
These sweet felt heart pockets are perfect for letting someone know you’re thinking about them. I hope you enjoyed this Felt Valentine Pocket Tutorial and find time to make plenty for your family and friends.
