This Lap Size 4-Patch Quilt Has A Twist

For my Heart Strings 4-Patch Quilt, I wanted to change the traditional layout that uses a single repeating 4-patch block. Instead of using a patchwork with all the same size blocks, I decided to mix it up with alternating blocks of different sizes. The batik prints for this quilt are beautiful and I wanted to show them off in larger size blocks. Then the alternate block is a 4-patch of smaller squares that carries all the colors across the quilt seamlessly. It adds so much more interest to change things up a bit.

BEAUTIFUL!!!
Thank you Pamela, I love how it turned out.

Yes, I understand what you’re saying Laurel. This is just a preview post while I’m finishing the piecing. The finished quilt top and other details will be posted in a few days. In the meantime, be sure to download the free 4-Patch printable tutorial above. I think you’ll love how the quilt top is turning out,
Lea
Can’t wait to see your layout! I love hearing your thought process on all of this. I need inspiration on quilt backs. I tend to get stuck on the backing and quilting steps. I like the idea of planning and doing it at the time of doing the top. I have 3 tops… or 4…without a backing plan. It may not seem like a lot but I’m a beginner and have only completed 4 quilts start to finish.
Congrats on 4 completed quilts Dawn! That’s awesome and don’t think it’s a small feat. Keeping the quilt back design in mind as we piece the top is the perfect time to create a great plan. We’re already into the fabrics, the top is coming together and we are motivated to finish. It really does work for me. Keep up the great job,
Lea
