Choose a Simple Pattern
You’ll enjoy making beautiful scrappy quilts using very simple patterns and vibrant color. Choose a simple pattern and use your fabrics to create a stunning design. Many traditional quilt blocks are simple to make and easy to master. The trick is to choose what you like best about your chosen quilt block and add some emphasis. Perhaps you’ll change the size such as I did in this domino quilt block. By increasing the size of the center strip, my fabrics stood out much more. This way the fabrics become the focus instead of the block design itself.
Choosing Fabrics for Effect
Choosing fabrics with vibrant contrast is a simple and easy way to turn your quilt blocks into a beautiful, one-of-a-kind quilt. In this quilt the fabric selection is filled with bright colors that work well together. The amazing contrast is created by adding the black strips as the background. The black is a good choice because many of the center strips have black accents. Using a background with that color emphasizes those bits of color plus it creates a stunning frame around each center fabric strip. It all works together wonderfully.

Precut Fabrics Save Time
Easy Scrap Quilts with Layer Cakes
Beautiful scrap quilts can be easier with precuts. Sure you have scraps, but including a coordinated group of focal fabrics will bring your design to a higher level. Precuts also save time and fabric selection dilemmas as your color palette is already decided. Now you can add your scraps to the precuts and emphasize the colors that you want to stand out.

This quilt is made with layer cakes so most of the cutting is already done. Layer cakes include coordinated fabrics that work well together. Plus there is generally an assortment of light to dark fabrics so you’ll have great contrast to work with. Using a layer cake as a starting point can make your fabric choices much simpler.
Make it Personal
To achieve a beautiful quilt you need to personalize it. Whether it’s with your signature colors, or quilting pattern, let your quilt reflect your style. Think about adding borders and bindings that emphasize or highlight favorite colors in your quilt top. Include some aspect of the quilt block into the border or backing to carry the design throughout the quilt.

When you’re comfortable with how to easily create scrappy quilts you’ll be surprised just how easy they become for you. This is your time to make a statement and show your personal style. Let your quilts standout from the rest! Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
