Disappearing Charms Quilt
Disappearing Charms Quilt Pattern

Don’t you just love a simple pattern that goes together quickly yet looks like you worked incredibly hard on it? This is that sew-n-go charm quilt pattern and it’s made completely with 5” charms. Whether you buy the precut packs or cut your own 5” squares, you will appreciate how easy this charm pack quilt pattern is to sew.

My favorite quilt patterns do not require lots of fussy work. Especially for a quick baby quilt. My Disappearing Charms is a simplified assembly variation of the Falling Charms quilt that requires lots of piecing and trimming. Instead, the Disappearing Charms quilt is fully assembled with squares that do not require any trimming. This is a simple charm pack quilt for beginners. You can easily finish this Disappearing Charms quilt top in a day which makes it a perfect gift for a new mom.
Make A Charm Pack Quilt Easily

The Disappearing Charms quilt is a fun project. First you start with a nine patch that you transform into four smaller blocks to make your quilt. By using this method, you will have the perfect block to create a Falling Charms quilt. The best part is that you do not have to trim all those strips used in the traditional pattern. This Disappearing Charm shortcut is so much easier!

After you have your blocks made, your quilt will go together very quickly. Once pieced, a narrow border that matches the background is added to carry the pattern to the edges. While a wide border would look great on this quilt too, I chose to keep it simple. Instead I finished it with a contrasting binding that brightens all the colors against the white-on-white background.
Choose Your Favorite Fabrics

The beauty of the Disappearing Charms quilt is that it can be made with all your favorite fabrics for a scrappy look. Yet it can take on a specific color scheme to suit your design. Plus by adjusting your block count, this quilt easily becomes any size you need. This finished quilt pictured is a baby quilt measuring 37” x 44”. It is made using Abby Rose by Moda and White-on-White Charm Packs.
Floating Charms Quilt

It’s fun to see how different the same fabrics look with a completely new background fabric. These Abby Rose by Moda charm squares are set off perfectly with this peachy-coral fabric.
This pattern is also a 9-patch variation. The different arrangement of blocks creates an illusion of floating charms across the quilt top. The added border extends the background and completes the overall soft look of this quilt.

This easy pattern is a quick finish and the look will change completely depending on the fabric choices.

Charm Square Half Square Triangles

Charming Triangles Quilt Pattern
Do you find that one quilting project generally leads to more and more ideas? Our creative minds get great exercise with quilting because the possibilities are endless. While making the Disappearing Charms quilt above, there were some unused blocks left-over. Since I used most of the prints, what was left were the solid squares. When it comes to fabric, I am very frugal and let nothing go to waste. So, I wanted to come up with a pattern using fewer charms yet still had plenty going on visually to keep it interesting.
For this charm pack quilt pattern, my first thought was to use a low volume background which is one of my favorite go-to’s. But with a limited number of charms, how was I going to spread them out across the quilt top…even on a baby quilt? Well, just cut them in half of course. That’s how the Charming Triangles Quilt came to be.
Make Charm Square Half Square Triangles

Using the left-over solids from the Abby Rose by Moda charm pack, paired with low volume fabrics on hand, this quilt is also an easy pattern. I matched the solid charms with the lightest low volume fabrics in my pile to get the most contrast. Then by making pairs of half square triangles (HST) I doubled the blocks I now had to use.
Make A Charm Square HST Quilt
Following the same disappearing 9-patch method above, I created a series of colorful blocks ready to turn into a gorgeous quilt top. What a ‘charmer’ this one turned out to be! The darker solids stand out boldly next to the light low volume prints. They make a great pair to design a quilt with.
This went together so quickly, and the blocks looked fantastic together. Now I wanted it to be a bit bigger. Fortunately, I had a piece of aqua fabric that matched perfectly with the solids I was using. Then I sewed together some more HSTs. They became a D9-Patch which resulted in more wonderful Charming Triangle blocks. It worked out perfectly!
Charmed Coin Quilt

Charmed Coin Quilt Pattern
Coin quilts are popular and especially easy for scrap quilts. Stacks of layered blocks are sewn the length of the quilt and placed side by side. The strips may be flipped from top to bottom or turned from side to side. This Charmed Coin Quilt Pattern has a couple design elements to set it apart.
Precut charm packs make coin quilts simple to assemble! Creating stacks of coins is an effective method to use a multitude of fabrics yet keep an organized layout. By sewing your charm squares together and crosscutting them, you will have stacks of coins ready to quilt before you know it.
Charmed Coin Quilt Lattice

The addition of narrow lattice strips separates the stacks of charmed coins for a pleasing block design. Now change it up a bit with an asymmetrical layout and you have a dramatic quilt that will grab everyone’s eye. This charm pack quilt pattern is perfect for beginners.
Tilted Charms Baby Quilt

This just might be my favorite quilt in this series. These easy HSTs made from charm squares go together quickly. The bright yellow batiks are bright pops of color and frame the blue hydrangea fabrics beautifully.
Making charm square HSTs is a fast way to get a quilt finished. The precut squares sew together quickly without all the cutting. It’s a fun layout that looks great with any contrasting color combination. Be sure to give this pattern a try.
