Batik Charm Square Brick Path Baby Quilt
This Bold, Bright, & Beautiful Batik-Low Volume Baby Quilt is a quick and easy project you’ll love to make. Choose two charm packs, one batik and one low volume, and you’re ready to begin sewing. The batik charms are a fabulous contrast next to the understated low volume background fabrics. With the cutting done for you, start mixing up your colors. Create a single pile for each group of charms making sure no two colors are next to each other. Now begin sewing them together randomly for a spectacular finish. Since I had already purchased my low volume fabrics in fat quarters, I did some quick cutting to make up 42 charms.
Generally, the traditional brick path pattern uses rectangles and makes a stunning finished quilt. This variation mixes it up a bit by pairing two charms to create the visual effect of rectangles. The charm bricks are more playful, and I love the bright mix of colors. This method creates a beautiful, color-splashed diagonal design that looks great in any size quilt.

How to Sew A Charm Square Quilt Top

The easiest method to assemble this Batik-Low Volume Baby Quilt is with the chain piecing method. Actually, I use this method on most all my block quilts as it keeps my rows even. It also allows me to check that my pattern is developing as I intend it to.
You will begin sewing from the top left corner to the bottom edge of the quilt. So be sure to select the correct fabric to keep your pattern design correct. Starting from the top left corner, sew the first two side-by-side blocks with a ¼” seam from top to bottom. Pause, but don’t cut your threads yet. Place the first two blocks of the next row under your presser foot and sew them together, too. Continue sewing pairs of charms until you have nine pairs chain-stitched together.
Now you will start adding another row of blocks from the top down. When all nine rows have nine blocks each, you’re nearly finished. Simply sew the rows together, being sure to nest those seams, and you’ll have a finished quilt top in one afternoon of sewing. If you decide to make a larger quilt, just keep adding charms until you reach the size you want.
All that’s left is to quilt and bind the edges and your Batik-Low Volume Baby Quilt is finished!
